At the end of August, Nina Klimburg-Witjes and Philipp Kürten were in Bologna, at the 18th Pan-European Conference on International Relations, organised by the European International Studies Association (EISA) from August 25 to August 29.
At the conference, Nina co-organised the first-ever “Critical Studies of Outer Space” section, together with Katharina Glaab (Norwegian University of Life Sciences) and Enrike van Wingerden (Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Amsterdam). Hosting four panels and one roundtable, the section brought together multidisciplinary research on outer space infrastructures, power relations and governance challenges, among other themes.
Philipp presented new findings from his research in a presentation entitled “Pacing Space – Futuring Practices and Temporal Ownership in the European Space Sector”. Nina acted as a discussant and chair in several sessions and presented “Towards a Topography of Earth-Space Relations: Volumetric Politics and the European Ariane Rocket”, highlighting FutureSpace’s ongoing work of mapping Earth-Space Relations in Europe.
